Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre

A woman composer was a rarity in the 17th century, but her status, first as a child prodigy providing entertainment for aristocratic patrons with her skill on the keyboard, and later as a composer was well established after the publication of volumes of cantatas and a substantial opera, Cephal et Procris, a tragedy in five acts, which was performed at the Academie Royale de la Musique in 1694.
